A textile studio providing services to the Film, TV and Theatre industries and individuals with a passion for craftsmanship.

Textile Artist and Dyer

Costume textile artists and dyers are the Art Department of Costume. It’s where the magic happens, we transform something ordinary into something that tells a story.

Using knowledge of light and shade, colour theory, hand painting, dyeing skills and breaking down fabric, we are able to create narrative and provide a sense of time and place.

Working closely with the design team and discerning character story line, we create special effects such as blood, sweat and mud to bring garments and fabric to life.

More about us

The Cotswold Dyer is a specialist textile studio nestled in the heart of the countryside, offering services to film and theatre productions as well as the individual.

Having studied Costume and Set Design at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, I have worked in the film industry for fifteen years. It has been a privilege to learn from heads of department such as John Cowell, Bez Evans and Jo Weaving. Some of the incredible projects I’ve been a part of include Napolean, Cruella, House of the Dragon and Rings of Power.

Alongside my work, I teach a module on the Costume Design course at Falmouth University. My workshop introduces students to the Breakdown Department within Costume. We explore the role of the Textile Artist in Film and I provide students a taste of the techniques, products and processes used by artists in the Industry.

With a real love for the ancient craft of dyeing, where possible I like to move away from synthetic dyes. I began learning about plant based colour with Babs Behan and Rhyannan Hall. Working with natural dye is a peaceful process, slowing me down and connecting me with the surrounding countryside. As the seasons change, so does my dye material.

I will soon be opening an online shop selling a collection of luxury, plant-dyed silk ribbons—perfect for bridal bouquets. Together with LandGirl Flowers in Hook Norton we will also be offering natural dye workshops.

Founded from a love of colour and craft, The Cotswold Dyer is a personal journey: a dream realised to create a home-based studio that allows a balance between meaningful work and family life.

I am a BECTU member and a member of The Society of Dyers and Colourists.
